The Breslau/Wrocław Psalter, a Highlight of European Book Art

Exhibition from November 3rd to 25th, 2018

For the first time, the Quaternio Publishing Company Lucerne presents its newest facsimile edition in Germany: the precious Breslau/Wrocław Psalter. The extremely splendid decoration of the script created around 1265 and provided by the famous Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge (UK) is just fascinating. Altogether 36 calendar sheets, 28 full-page miniatures, 10 full-page decorative initials, 168 miniatures on the page margins and countless additional decorative elements were created to adorn the script consisting of 147 sheets.

Presumably, it was Anna of Bohemia (1201/04-1265), daughter-in-law of St. Hedwig, who had ordered this script. It is considered to originate from the Leubus Monastery being the only place in Silesia to create scripts like this in the 13th century.
